Employee Spotlight: Mark Christensen

This month, we spoke to Mark Christensen, one of Vision Net’s Network Technicians, whose expansive knowledge has benefitted our clients for over 15 years. Learn about his favorite project, movie, and his hobbies!

What is your position at Vision Net and what do you do?

Network Technician.

How long have you worked at Vision Net?

15 years.

What 3 words describe Vision Net?

Quality, innovative, and future.

What is your favorite Vision Net perk?

All the coffee I want!

What is your favorite thing you have learned at Vision Net?

Fiber splicing training, and that was fun and informative! We learned how to fuse two fibers together to complete a circuit. We learned how to splice so that during field installations, we can quickly and efficiently restore fiber optic cables when a buried cable is accidentally severed.

What challenges do you enjoy at Vision Net?

Being a part of big projects and seeing them from start to finish.

Are there any projects you have worked on that you’re proud of?

The Kalispell project where we built our own Point-of-Presence (POP) site, wherein our network shares a connection.

What does Vision Net’s Wholesale team do well?

Planning things out, completing projects on time, and delivering fantastic service to our clients.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of the Wholesale team?

The variety of projects, tasks, client services, and deliverables we manage.

If you could add one thing to the Vision Net office, what would it be?

A pop machine, so I could enjoy unlimited pop after I’m done with my morning coffee!

What advice do you have for prospective Vision Net candidates?

Don’t plan on doing just one thing; expect a variety of tasks and be ready to think on your feet!

What is the greatest innovation you have seen in your lifetime?

Smartphones.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I enjoy working around the house, making things better, and going camping.

What is your favorite movie?

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

What is your favorite food?

It used to be snow crab and then last year on my birthday, I developed an allergy, so I can’t have snow crab anymore. So now I enjoy a lot of pizza!

Do you have any talents or hobbies?

I’ve begun welding and fabricating a lot lately!

How do you define success?

Waking up every morning, doing your job well, and at the end of the day, being happy with what you accomplished.
