Vision Net Unveils the Mountain West Region's First 800Gb/s Network with Major Phase 1 Upgrade

GREAT FALLS, Mont., January 8, 2025 (Newswire.com) - Vision Net, a leading provider of network and technology solutions for carriers, enterprise businesses, healthcare organizations, and educational institutions, announced a series of significant network upgrades aimed at increasing bandwidth options for clients. The upgrade introduces the Mountain West region's first 800Gb/s network, setting a new benchmark for speed, capacity, and reliability.

The investment reflects Vision Net's ongoing commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions and enhancing service offerings across its entire network. The upgrade will significantly expand bandwidth capabilities and improve service delivery for Vision Net's diverse clientele.

The 800Gb/s network infrastructure enhances interconnection between Vision Net's two data centers in Billings, MT, enabling faster, more efficient cloud services and a stronger native network. This will empower businesses with unparalleled connectivity and accelerate the delivery of high-performance services.

Vision Net's 800Gb/s network leverages Ciena's (NYSE:CIEN) innovative optical and multi-layer network control technologies. Ciena's 6500WaveLogic 5 Extreme 800Gb/s transceivers and programmable photonics make possible higher capacities at a lower cost and eliminate the need for frequent regeneration. Additionally, Ciena's Navigator Network Control Suite, featuring Liquid Spectrum, allows dynamic scaling of line rates to meet evolving customer requirements. To meet project deadlines, Ciena Services provided integration of the solution-including design, staging, deployment, turnup, and testing - and is providing maintenance services to ensure optimal network performance.

"As demand for higher bandwidth continues to grow, we are committed to staying ahead of the curve with investments that make a real difference for our clients and communities," said Rob Worden, President and CEO of Vision Net. "These upgrades are designed to not only improve the quality of service today, but also position our network to handle the evolving needs of our clients into the future."

The Phase 1 upgrade is just the beginning. Vision Net will expand its network coverage regionally, with plans to extend services to Bozeman, MT, by spring 2025. This expansion will help businesses access reliable, high-bandwidth services, positioning Vision Net as a key driver of regional economic growth.

"Vision Net is an established leader in the Mountain West region, and these forward-looking technology upgrades exemplify their proactive approach to fortifying their network to seamlessly satisfy escalating bandwidth demands," said Kevin Sheehan, CTO of the Americas, Ciena.

In addition to regional expansion, Vision Net is integrating advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, into its network architecture. The company is also investing in further data center facility improvements to meet the demands of an increasingly digital-first world.

Vision Net's 800Gb/s network is setting the stage for even greater innovation and service offerings in the coming years. As the company continues to expand its footprint and enhance its technology stack, it remains dedicated to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction and ensuring that clients have access to the best network and cloud-based solutions available.

Notably, Vision Net is also utilizing Ciena's routing and switching solutions, including the 5164 Router and 8110 Coherent Aggregation Router, in its network infrastructure to power the efficient provisioning of carrier-managed services.

VoIP vs UCaaS: Which one is best for your business?

For over 20 years, small to medium-sized businesses have embraced VoIP to replace outdated phone systems and as technology has improved, VoIP has evolved into a next-generation technology that provides seamless integration between internet and voice.

Developed in the 1970s, VoIP technology began to be widely used in the 1990s, leading to the development and practical application of UCaaS for next-generation voice, video, and more.

Vision Net provides VoIP, UCaaS, and Microsoft Teams Integrated services and since no two businesses have the same needs, we design robust and secure systems and work with our clients to find the right technology solution.

Many organizations have strategic reasons for unifying their business communication with a cloud-based solution and will see the best ROI with Vision Net’s UCaaS. However, other businesses have unique needs that are best met by Vision Net’s VoIP.

As a business telecommunications company in Montana for over 28 years, Vision Net understands the needs of small and medium sized businesses throughout the region. We work with our clients to find the best solution for their needs and within their budget, and we’re here to help you determine the best solution for your business.

Vision Net’s VoIP is implemented on-site through your broadband connection, rather than outdated telephone cables. VoIP services can be managed in-house or delivered as a cloud-based service; Vision Net’s agility allows businesses to determine their best management method.

5 Reasons Why VoIP Is Ideal for Businesses Seeking Simple and Affordable Phone Calling:

  1. Significant cost savings on interoffice calling, long-distance, and international calling.
  2. Simple phone line management.
  3. Cost-effective management.
  4. Automated call distribution, voice recognition, and remote phone lines management.
  5. As your business grows, you can scale from VoIP to UCaaS.

UCaaS is defined by as-a-Service apps that are hosted and delivered by a cloud communication tool and as a Unifying communication tool for a streamlined user interface. Vision Net’s UCaaS is delivered through our Unified Communications platform. Adopting Vision Net’s UCaaS will lead to remarkable cost savings and productivity gains.

UCaaS: The Top 5 Needs It Addresses for Businesses:

  1. Video features including video conferencing, web conferencing, and screen sharing.
  2. Simple communication and management across multiple sites or locations.
  3. Developing strong business continuity and disaster management processes including broadcast via voice phones, instant messages, text, and email.
  4. Increase productivity and decrease error by integrating data across apps.
  5. Improve the customer experience by unifying channels including chat, email, and phone.

One of the most practical features of UCaaS missing from VoIP are video communications. If your employees work remotely, travel expenses are a concern, or teams work in different offices, video has benefits that will deliver a strong ROI. 93% of communication is nonverbal, so video could mean fewer miscommunications, 30% less on business travel, and greater collaboration between teams. For many companies, video is the deciding factor between VoIP or UCaaS since video conferencing lets your employees conduct interactive meetings, share screens, connect with and help clients troubleshoot issues in record time.

VoIP and UCaaS both provide flexibility that businesses need. UCaaS offers extensive flexibility in services, especially if you partner with vendors who offer dedicated port connection and with VoIP, you can instantly add and subtract phone lines, and offer features to employees on an as-needed basis. We built our VoIP and Unified Communication Suite on our network with reliability and redundancy as priorities with a knowledgeable staff to ensure your network is proactively monitored and threats are eliminated before they can attack your network.

As an additional feature to the Vision Voice suite of products Vision Net offers Microsoft Teams integration where Vision Net handles the call origination and termination through MS Teams rather than relying on Microsoft as your phone provider. The benefits are our redundant network optimized for call and video applications and the ability to overlay services and advanced features such as call center, hunt groups, call recording, call reporting and faxing.

Still not sure which option will work best for your business? Contact Vision Net to learn about the functionality that will work best for your business.

Retirement Party: Dick Egan

Today we said a very fond farewell to Dick Egan. He has worked at Vision Net since April of 2003 and has been, among other things, a TAC Supervisor, Network tech, Facilities go-to guy, and has spent the last ten years working with the PSAP team, where he will be sorely missed.

Our CEO, Corey Jensen, gave Dick a recognition plaque and said some words to him:

Dick, from the bottom of my heart, your are an inspiration. We all aspire to be as good as you, thank you for all the influence you have on us, whether you know it or not. You truly are an institution here, that we'll not replace easily. Make sure to stop by to say hi, we certainly will miss you.

Corey Jensen - Vision Net President & CEO

Dick thanked him and said that Vision Net we'll continue doing great because we have a really good crew here.

We all hope Dick enjoys his well deserved retirement.

Employee Spotlight: Dick Egan

Since we launched this blog, we decided to create an Employee Highlight series to offer an inside look at our company culture and profile the talented individuals who help us to bring innovation and technology to Montana.

For this month we spoke to Dick Egan, he has been working for Vision Net for 16 years! He is one of our E-911 Technicians and he will be retiring next month. We certainly will miss him because one of his mottos is “if it needs done Dick takes care of it” and we couldn’t come up with a better description than that for this outstanding member of our team.

What are 3 words to describe Vision Net?

Innovative, growing and fun!

How has Vision Net changed since you started working here?

When I started it was primarily helping our telecom owners and their customers with internet support. OUR NOC just consisted of a state hot line and a wholesale hot line, so 2 Lines basically was our NOC. That’s grown into all the monitoring that you see today, the nationwide customers of support and 911.

What does your job entail?

Installing and maintaining 911 systems and the network that supports them all.

What’s a common question you get from customers?

“Can you add a user for us?” We usually know that there is a problem before the customer does so we are more proactive than reactive.

What do you like most about your job?

Satisfaction of helping people out and making sure the work gets done.

What do you find the most challenging about your job?

Staying on the top of new technologies because the 911 field right now is blossoming. We are going to an E-911, or esi net, which is IP based as opposed to analog.

What would people never guess you do in your role?

I change lightbulbs!

What advice do you have for prospective Vision Net candidates?

Always treat your customers as treasures.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Binge watching TV! Fixing and repairs shows, dramas, all kinds of different shows.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?

The thermos! Because it keeps the hot stuff hot and the cold stuff cold, but how do it know.

Do you have a favorite newspaper or blog?

I read the Great Falls Tribune every day.

Retirement

I am passing the torch! I think we will get a really good candidate. And hopefully I’ll have enough time to show him all things that needs to get done. If not, I’m sure Gary will get him up to speed.

Farewell Dick, we wish you the best! The Vision Net team couldn’t be more grateful to you.
